Energy carriers of the future
Photovoltaics, or PV for short, is an aspect of solar technology and describes the conversion of the sun’s light into electricity. This process requires panels comprising solar cells made of silicon. In addition, a photovoltaic system also requires batteries to store the electricity they produce.
Solar modules only produce DC (direct current), and AC (alternating current) is required for use in the home or for feeding it into the National Grid. A so-called inverter is installed to convert the current.
